The Next Doctor

They announced who the Twelfth Doctor is going to be. No, Yoda, it's not you and it's not you, Michael.

It's... some Scottish actor...

I'm kind of excited about this. Although I don't know a lot about him, I went and caught a few things on youtube and he seems a competent actor and the twinkle I see in his photos seems to bode well.

He reminds me of the 1st and 2nd Doctors.

I suspect that was deliberate. There's a bit of Tom Baker (4th Doctor) in there, too, especially in the clothing choice.
Spoiler:
As the supposedly final regeneration, it would be only right that he reflect all of the previous incarnations in some way.

Oh I remember him from Local Hero. Cool. I recognized him when I saw World War Z. Between WWZ and Local Hero I didn't remember seeing him in anything.

He used to be on a political comedy called In the Thick of It where he played Malcolm Tucker.

And, Michael, you're already a Time Lord. You're the Administrator. \Y/

You're Rassilon? I'm sorry to tell you this but you're dead. Besides, I always thought of you more the early version of the Master and Quo is the Rani. Or Romana.

Actually...
Spoiler:
...this will be the 12th Doctor, but it will only be the 11th time he's regenerated, meaning he has one left after this.
Anyways, I like that they chose an older actor this time. I think he'll do a good job.

Of course, that is assuming you believe that particular statement.

There is one thing you MUST remember, the Doctor lies when it suits him. And it does so...frequently.

Your also forgetting the time that in Journey's End when the 10th Doctor regenerated...

So if you really think about it David Tennant played the 10th and 11th Doctor and Matt Smith was the real 12th and this new one is the 13th.

And again... it IS possible for Time Lords to choose their regenerative form. No one seems to remember when Lady Romana did just that...with a cavalcade of choices. *L*

By my count

1 - William Hartnell (1963–1966)
2 - Patrick Troughton (1966–1969)
3 - Jon Pertwee (1970–1974)
4 - Tom Baker (1974–1981)
5 - Peter Davison (1981–1984)
6 - Colin Baker (1984–1986)
7 - Sylvester McCoy (1987–1989, 1996)
8 - Paul McGann (1996)
9 - John Hurt? (2013)
10 - Christopher Eccleston (2005)
11&12 - David Tennant (2005–2010)
13 - Matt Smith (2010–2013)
14 - Peter Capaldi (2013–)

So yeah, so much for just 13 lives, huh?
And by the way it's 13 regenerations, so he could have 14 faces.

I'm pretty sure it's 12 regenerations and therefore 13 faces, but I could be wrong.

Either way, if the show goes on long enough, I'm sure the writers will come up with a way to give him as many lives as the show needs.
