What are you favorite Beatles covers?*

Post by JM1776 » Fri Apr 20, 2018 6:51 pm

My top five (in alphabetical order):
  • "Come Together," Aerosmith
  • "Drive My Car," Jonas Brothers (yeah, I know)
  • "Got to Get You into My Life," Earth, Wind, and Fire
  • "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds," Elton John
  • "With a Little Help from My Friends," Joe Cocker
* – And please don't be one of those that 'contributes' some variant of, "I don't like the Beatles." Just move on without posting if you don't want to play.
"The angel of the Lord appeared to them ... and they were struck with great fear. 'Do not be afraid; for behold, I proclaim to you good news of great joy ... today in the city of David a savior has been born. And this will be a sign ... you will find an infant wrapped in swaddling clothes and lying in a manger.'”

I'd never heard it before and went to check it out.

There's no accounting for taste.

I can't stand it. I couldn't even get through the whole thing.

I imagine a lot of people feel that way about Jonas Brothers' "Drive My Car".

Hadn't heard this in a while. Still like it.

Almost everyone would go with "With a Little Help from My Friends" when thinking of Joe Cocker. Interesting choice.

Are you a guitarist yourself?

There's no accounting for taste.

Guess not.

Goes both ways, I suspect.

You had already mentioned "With a Little Help from My Friends". No point in repeating yours.

I am. Bass and acoustic/electric.

I had expected such. Healey's a great guitarist, but his voice sucks. Usually, guitarists can tune out poor vocals and enjoy the music.

Your understanding of music, thus, is superior to mine on a technical level. I'm just a schlub who likes what he likes.

Music appreciation if very subjective. I am very much a mid 50's to late 90's music lover. Have tuned out pretty much since 2005.

My MP3 collection will testify to that.

Heh. I bet we'd like each other's selections.

I liked the version of "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" that was done at the RRHOF induction of George Harrison, by a large band that included Tom Petty, Jeff Lynne, Steve Winwood, Marc Mann and Dhani Harrison with an extended guitar solo by Prince.

Along with "Come Together," Aerosmith, "With a Little Help from My Friends," Joe Cocker, "Here Comes the Sun" Bon Jovi, "The Long and Winding Road" The Corrs, and of course "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" by the Shat himself. (ok just kidding on the last one.

Worth posting here.

I can't believe Tom Petty and Prince are both gone.

That may be the single greatest rendition of the song ever.
